This kind of diffusers is used to produce homogenous lighting, hide a light source, scatter light at a certain angle or extend the angle range of a signal. Special in this case is that it also works for multi-colour and white-light sources.

A particular advantage is that converging lens and diffuser can be combined in one element to achieve maximum homogeneity and reduce the number of components. The intensity distribution is flexible thus creating brightness curves in form of a Gauss curve or as uniform top hat.
